Sehwag don't want to be opener.. i think he had said this before also.. Here is what he said
"I would love to bat at number four. I know I would not get that till Sachin retires. But I can wait," Sehwag said, despite his enormous success at the top of the order. "I still would like to bat in the middle order. It's difficult to field one-and-half days and then come out to bat in 10 minutes. When you bat at No. 6 like (MS) Dhoni, it allows you some rest. I have been successful as an opener but who knows, maybe I would have been more successful in the middle order."

The remark he made about Mahi... i just felt very odd... Maybe he just said it.. didn't meant anything.. but i just felt the controversy that not all is well between Mahi and Sehwag.. has some truth.. if he wanted to mention that the coming later to play is easy..as u get rest.. thats OK.. why say like Mahi... i didn't like that... BTW Mahi comes at No 7... Laxman comes at No. 6...

Congrats to sachin and sehwag.

If sehwag thinks he could be more successful not being a opener, just look at sachin, he has built his whole career being a opener. Its only now sachin has started playing at 3 after the arrival of gambhir.

Ofcurs opening a innings in ODI and test is the most difficult job job, but as far as the needs of indian teams are, you are the need of the team to open the innings. Team doesn't count on how many times you fail, but its important that you fire up for maximum time you play and destroy the moral of bowling attack. Everybody can make runs, but no one can break the backbone of bowling attack and destroy their confidence as you can. Sachin used to do this when he was young, and we look at you as his clone. If sehwag plays at 6 he wil still play in his style, which may not be the requirement of the match at that stage of match. That spot is best suited for someone like dhoni.

So sehwag should not pull out this arguement about playing position and focus on his career at the opening position, and continue to do what he is best for, he is built for the kill, not a long marathon.

@@ Sejal: I didnt like how he included Mahi as well...I'm pretty sure tht Mahi and Sehwag would have arguments sometimes..but I dont think it is very serious tht it cant b taken care by the team and the coaching staff...I feel that may b he's expressing tht he's tired...lol...

@@ganesh: I do agree with u....tht he is best at being an opener and attacking the opposition n he should do just tht...but I didn't like how u called him Sachin's 'clone'...

oh btw, congratulations to Viru & Sachin for the award...

Clone for the way he plays resembles with the way sachin used to play when he was around 25. Its another point that sachin had a better success rate even with destructive strike rate which makes him a legend.
When sehwag arrived new and played his nasty innings, while opening with sachin, i remember it was difficult to recognise who was at strike. Commentator used to call him sachin's clone.

But then again there is one and only GOD. :sunny:
